Sterling Degree: Grassroots
Current Hometown: Bethesda, Maryland
“I loved my experiences at Sterling and they ignited my passion for preserving the planet and being outdoors. After graduating, my fellow classmate and future husband, RK Myers, and I opened a mountain shop, Ligonier Mountain Outfitters, in Laughlintown, PA. We taught people cross-country skiing, backpacking, mountaineering, rock climbing and other outdoor activities. We led many trips for the same activities across the US and taught people how to respect and preserve the environment using many of the techniques we learned at Sterling.
I went on to complete my BS in accounting and worked as a business consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers for several years. Later I managed the corporate headquarters of Honest Tea in Bethesda, MD, where I could walk to work and predominantly use public transportation.
I am a Master Gardener and work as a volunteer gardener at the herb garden at the National Institutes of Health. I live in a small apartment and grow organic, heirloom vegetables, flowers and herbs in containers.
My experience at Sterling was incredibly important to me and is still. I want to support Sterling to help ensure the school’s mission and work continue for generations to come.”
