Support our Students
Professional Studies at Sterling College offers opportunities for learning and community building to learners and teachers around the world through two initiatives:
The School of the New American Farmstead
The School of the New American Farmstead offers courses in regenerative farming and artisanal food production to support professionals and lifelong learners of all ages. We provide a variety of classes, study tours, and professional certificates that will inspire you, equip you with marketable skills, and provide you with new perspectives. Our hands-on courses will require you to roll up your sleeves and dig in. The School of the New American Farmstead’s experiential approach will engage all of your senses and offer insights into techniques perfected by some of the world’s most skilled ecological farmers and craft-food producers.
EcoGather
The EcoGather initiative is a first-of-its-kind, global tool that will connect communities focused on ecological thinking and action. EcoGather will upend the traditional online delivery model of education common among colleges and universities by co-designing courses with communities around the world as they confront the challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss and an extractive globalized economy. Communities in Vermont, Bhutan, India, Puerto Rico and England will collaborate with EcoGather staff to co-create online educational courses and tools that can best serve their specific needs and audiences.
Professional Studies
& COVID-19
Sterling College has a long history of being responsive to the changing world around it.
We look forward to having you on campus to experience the wonders of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont and engage deeply with the farm, field, forests, and in the classroom but no on-site courses will be scheduled prior to May 2021.
Professional Studies is focusing on live-streamed, online speakers, events, and classes until social-distancing measures are significantly reduced. Thank you for your patience as we adapt our offerings to online delivery.
Sign up here if you want to be added to our mailing list for the online versions of our classes or want to be alerted when on-campus courses resume.
Support students worldwide
Many of our students are farmers or entrepreneurs running small businesses that support the health of their communities. Through scholarships, they are able to access courses and networking opportunities that can advance their businesses and strengthen their communities. Support these students directly by donating to our Professional Studies scholarship fund.
