James “Rocky” Query is Sterling College’s new Chief Financial Officer, and joined the campus in May of 2015.
Query was the Assistant Vice President for Finance for Saint Joseph’s University, where he developed and implemented a financial plan that allowed the University to execute a major campus acquisition and building program. In 2012, he worked with Sweet Briar College and its alumnae to reverse the decision to close. He joined the new board for Sweet Briar as the chair of the finance committee, where he launched a multi-year financial plan and capital campaign.
Before that, Query ran his own financial management consultancy, where he has experience working with a diverse array of colleges, universities, and nonprofit cultural institutions, such as Columbia University, the University of Illinois, Washington & Lee, and the Manhattan School of Music. As an investment banker, he has worked with organizations such as Morgan Stanley and Lehman Brothers. •
