The Hickories, located in Ridgefield, CT, growing certified organic fruit, vegetable, cut flower and pasture-raised livestock farm. The Hickories is a women owned farm established in 2004 but has been a working farm for over 200 years.
Our mission is to produce safe, nutritious products grown with respect for soil, animals and people. Our vision is to model an agriculture that is innovated and replicable: one that is ecologically, economically, and socially responsible. We work to connect our community to working farmland.
We are hiring for a number of positions; part-time positions can be combined to create fulltime positions. Start and stop dates can be flexible based on candidates schedule. In a cover letter, please include what position(s) are of interest to you. We will begin interview in February.

Position(s) Available: Farmer, Vegetable (Full or Part Time)
Full season- at the farm April through Thanksgiving.
April-November 30-40 hours a week on average, longer in peak season and shorter in the fall.
Wage based on experience.
Work schedule varies over season. Full time 8-5pm, Part time can be broken into AM shift (8-12) or PM shift (12-5)
Must be willing to work weekends.
Job will end by Thanksgiving of 2023
Responsibilities
·       Duties include all aspects of a diversified organic farm, but primarily focused on our crop, flower and native seed production.

·        Employees can expect to spend most of their time planting, weeding, trellising, learning greenhouse production, CSA distribution, harvesting and packing.

·       As a part of our rotating weekend schedule there will be some cross-over training with livestock work as well; all farmers must be comfortable with livestock. Our farm raises sheep, hens, hogs, and keeps Livestock Guardian Dogs.

Work Requirements
·       Ability to work with The Hickories volunteers and employees in a collegial manner
·       Ability to work alone
·       Well organized, self-motivated and punctual.
·       Attention to detail and ability to work at pace
·       Ability to lift at least 50 pounds on a regular basis
·       Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather (cold, wind, rain, heat)
·       Physically able to handle and move all species of livestock on the farm
·       Ability to operate basic farm equipment safely and effectively
·       Ability to take direction, written and verbal from managers
·       Weekend Work
·       Experience on farms preferred but not required.

Position(s) Available: Farm Market Attendant (Part Time)
Work requirements at the farm May through November.
May-November est. 10- 12 hours a week.
Work schedule to be announced, will be based on market schedule.
Must be willing to work weekends.

Responsibilities
·       Execute day-to-day operations of markets, including:
Organization of all equipment and supplies needed for market
Transportation of equipment, supplies and product
Responsible for all set up & breakdown of markets
·       Ensure the safety of markets by following all safety rules, and adhering to all market rules.
·       Provide substitute coverage and assist with other market-related tasks and projects as needed.
·       Fill out accurate and timely submission of market reports & logs
·       Report to manager products of low inventory and items to reorder.
·       Maintain and create a customer service experience for the public
·       Communicate The Hickories/ Eco59’s purpose and mission to the public
·       Work to develop familiarity with the farm and products sold.

Position(s) Available: Farmer, Livestock (Part Time)
Full season are available at the farm April through Fall of 2023.
April-November 12-20 hours a week, morning
Hourly wage based on experience.
Work schedule varies over season.
Must be willing to work weekends.
Job will end by Thanksgiving of 2023; exact end date can be based on farm and candidate’s schedule.
Responsibilities
On a daily basis, is responsible for the care and feeding of livestock and other tasks related to maintaining the pastures and livestock buildings. Livestock Farmer must be able and willing to work with all species of livestock on the farm: sheep, pigs, chickens, and livestock guardian dogs.
