The Penn State Weed Science Lab ( has a fully-funded PhD position available in Weed Ecology and Management at Penn State University in State College, PA. The project will explore weed population and community level responses to cover-crop based Integrated Weed Management (IWM) tactics in field crop systems. The overall project aims to advance understanding of how to integrating cover crop- and herbicide- based tactics contribute to herbicide-resistance management. The student will participate in on-going USDA-funded field experiments and will be provided the opportunity to design complimentary field- and/or greenhouse experiments based on interest. Opportunities for participation in extension-outreach as well as undergraduate teaching (T.A.) are available. The student will interact with multidisciplinary research teams focusing on sustainable agricultural practices.


Annual stipend is ~$29,500. Benefits include tuition and health plan. Successful applicants will have: 1) a M.Sc. degree or B.Sc. degree with a strong record in a related field (Agronomy, Agroecology, Weed Science, Ecology); and 2) strong written and oral communication skills. Previous experience or interest in population-level modeling and a strong background in statistics is preferred.
