This course introduces students to the basic systems, maintenance, function, and uses of common, mechanized agricultural machinery. Students learn about and practice basic tractor safety. They examine structures and functions of internal combustion engines in common agricultural machinery. Through hands-on activities, combined with equipment manual study, they learn foundational skills for maintenance of farm machinery. They practice scale and needs assessment, and they determine economics related to the use, maintenance, and procurement of machines. The course also explores social and cultural components of farm machinery selection, maintenance, and use.
