This course gives students an introduction to the biology and chemistry needed to understand the diversity of life. The class covers taxonomy, evolution, water chemistry, macromolecules, DNA and genetics, cell structure and function, enzymes, and cellular respiration. The lab component introduces practical applications of the scientific method and builds skills in inorganic chemistry, use of microscopes, microbiology, and lab safety.
