This course helps students develop a sense of place as they begin their Sterling College careers, becoming familiar with the landscape, people, and natural world of northern Vermont. While spending time inside and outside, students taking this course will explore topics central to life at Sterling such as local ecology and community. They will establish bonds with other incoming students, returning students, faculty members and the wider Craftsbury community. Through common experiences, students will develop interpersonal communication ability, enhance their self-efficacy, and develop greater awareness as members of a community. In addition, students will be introduced to modes of winter travel and living skills that will increase their comfort working, studying and recreating safely in the winter landscape.
