If I had camera to document my first week at Sterling I would photograph 3 things (fortunately, Sterling’s resident storyteller, Beana Bern, did!):
1. A student holding a macro invertebrate, their eyes completely fixed on their new found friend, representing the diversity of genuine passions that students and staff in this community have.
2. The nutrient dense lunch plates of a group of friends, each plate containing the nutritional and dietary preferences and needs of those who are about to eat, representing the accommodating and welcoming nature of the kitchen ( a microcosm of the school as a whole ) and
3. A group of students seated by a stream, some contemplating, some laughing, some picking flowers, representing the wholeness of this educational experience where joy, curiosity, and mindfulness are in balance.
