With new buildings and barns being added to campus, Sterling College needed a new map to give to new and prospective students. And who better to blend old and new than a Sterling College alumnus?
Jay Merrill ’02 was commissioned to paint a new map of the campus that encompasses Cedar Cottage and the Parsonage, Houston and South Houses, as well as the new Alfond Draft Horse Barn.
Merrill said of the experience, “Illustrating the campus map for Sterling was a walk down memory lane. As I sketched it out I reflected on helping Ned Houston with the construction of the climbing wall, shingling the glass house with Steve Williams, paddling on Great Hosmer with Adrian Owens, doing watershed studies along the Whitney Brook for Ross Morgan’s class and ice climbing at Lake Willoughby with George Gardner. I’m glad I could give back to the school that gave me so much.” •
