In recognition of the critical challenges facing our planet and society due to climate change, Sterling College wishes to acknowledge the work of applicants who are engaged in addressing the issues associated with our use of fossil fuels.
As the only college in the country to offer a minor in climate justice, and the first college in Vermont to meet the challenge of divesting from the 200 fossil fuel extractors identified by 350.org, Sterling College has demonstrated its commitment to its mission of educating environmental stewards.
The focus of our liberal arts curriculum and global field studies programs in ecology, environmental humanities, outdoor education, and sustainable agriculture, give students broad exposure to the key issues associated with climate justice, and prepare them to make important contributions to the well-being of humanity and protection of the natural world.
In addition to an application for admission to Sterling College, applicants who wish to be considered for the Climate Justice Scholarships must submit a 500-word essay that describes their personal commitment to environmental stewardship and climate change activism. First-year and transfer students are eligible for consideration.
The scholarship essay should be submitted as a Word Document attachment and e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please use the subject line “Climate Justice.”
The deadline for full consideration is March 20th, 2015. Accepted students may begin their studies in the spring, summer, or fall semester.
