Sterling College has recently added athletic teams: shooting sports, mountain and trail running, and Nordic (cross-country) skiing.

The Mountain & Trail Running team is the first collegiate team in the country for the sport. Students compete locally and regionally in events throughout the Green Mountains, White Mountains, and the Adirondacks. Students, staff, and faculty train to prepare for competitions from an annual 5k trail series at the nearby Craftsbury Outdoor Center, to 50k and 50 mile ultramarathons in and around New England. There is also a trail running class.

Sterling College’s first Nordic ski team will launch in the winter of 2014. The team was developed in close collaboration with the renowned Craftsbury Outdoor Center. You can read their 2014 racing schedule here.

The team will work with both Outdoor Center coaches as well as Sterling College faculty, and they will have the opportunity to ski in Division 3 USCSA competitions, as well as local and regional races.

The shooting sports team launched in the Fall of 2013, and has won local competitions as well as been the recipient of a $10,000 grant.
