Bear Swamp is a 300 acre research forest and wetland located in Wolcott, Vermont, a 15 minute drive from the Sterling College campus. Nature trails lead through the forest to the headwaters of Tamarack Brook.
Bear Swamp slopes to the north, and the climate is noticably colder than surrounding areas. Because of this cold micro-climate, the vegetation and wildlife of Bear Swamp is typical of the sub-arctic region. Generations of Sterling College students have taken Winter Ecology in Bear Swamp, and the area is known as a hot-spot for birdwatching and animal tracking.
