Course Description

Field ecology is designed to give students the tools and basic understanding of natural systems to ask deep and significant questions about various ecosystems and to familiarize students with the skills to ask investigate ecological problems. This hands-on class is divided into the study of terrestrial, wetland/riparian, and aquatic systems. Aspects of microbial, animal, plant, and chemical ecology will be addressed in a wide-variety of habitats. Field work in forests, swamps, bogs, lakes and streams, old fields, and alpine regions will provide an introduction into the techniques, both descriptive and analytical, of the field ecologist.
