Forest and Trails
The Sterling College campus includes 75 acres of woodlot, with lean-tos and tent platforms, linked by a series of trails available for student use. Beyond the McCarthy Barns is the Sterling Nature Trail, a series of four trails that can be followed using an interpretive guide created by Sterling students. Cross-country ski trails, maintained in the winter by the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, also run through Sterling's woodlot.

Climbing and Fitness Facilities
The indoor Bouldering Wall is located in Simpson Hall. The multi-faced wall provides an all-weather recreational activity. Free weights, a treadmill, and an indoor rowing machine are also available in the fitness room in the ground floor of Simpson Hall.

The climbing wall on the lower campus is 30 feet tall and features three south facing interior surfaces for climbing, including an overhang.  There is also a chimney climb on the back. A roof allows us to climb during inclement weather; special lighting also allows us to climb in the evenings. The climbing wall is also tied into the high elements of the Sterling College Challenge Course.

Lounges
The main student lounge, known as "The Barn" is located in Dunbar Hall and is open 24 hours a day. A TV and VCR, a piano, games, and puzzles are available for student use. The Barn is heated with a clean-burning wood-pellet stove. Lounges are also located on each floor of Merlin Residence.

Recreation Room and Sterling College Store
The Sterling College Store and the Recreation Room are located behind Kane Hall. The store sells class supplies, Sterling College apparel, snacks, and toiletries. Also available are locally crafted items such as wooden bowls and yarn. College texts are purchased locally at Stardust Books, a satellite of the Galaxy Bookstore in Hardwick. The Recreation Room has a pool and a ping pong table, and is open 24 hours a day.
