New England Choral Singing - with Amity Baker & Social Band
Sunday April 6th • 3-5pm • E. Craftsbury Church • $12Come and sing both traditional and contemporary choral music from New England. We will explore the rich and layered harmonies as well as the driving percussive rhythms of shape note music. We’ll also learn contemporary (but accessible) songs by Vermont composers. Students will be led by Social Band’s Amity Baker, an outstanding choral director with a knack for bringing singers of all skill-levels together in song. Students will also be joined by members of Social Band and so will have the experience of singing among confident, talented singers. Come and co-create a living history of sound! ($20 for workshop and concert)

Featuring a powerful, full sound, Social Band brings warmth and vitality to its broad repertoire. As part of their spring series, this show premiers new works by Vermont composers around the theme of work. Composers include David Gunn, Pete Sutherland, Colin McCaffrey, Thomas L.Read, and Jermemiah McLane. Admission: Suggested donation of $12. Kids under 12 free.

Saturday April 12th • 3-5pm • Sterling Campus • $30.00If you love old-time string-band music -- like Old Crow Medicine Show, the Carolina Chocolate Drops, or Powder Keg -- you'll love the traditional dancing that goes with it! Learn authentic old-time southern Appalachian Clogging -- plus a bit of hambone body-percussion -- in this workshop. No previous experience necessary. Wear shoes that will stay on your feet that have a hard, non-stick sole. The workshop will be followed by an evening contra-dance. Get ready to show your free-style clogging stuff! This clogging workshop will be taught by Kathleen Moore, founder of the Kitchen Sync Cloggers. Kathleen has choreographed, taught, and performed Appalachian dance for more than 25 years. She draws from a myriad of dance traditions including African,swing, contra, square, Cajun, and more. She has studied with masters of Appalachian dance including Ira Bernstein (of 10 Toe Percussion), Sharon Leahy (of Rhythm in Shoes), and Eileen Carson (of the Fiddle Puppets).
Contra Dance - with The String Collective & Lausanne Allen

Come join us for an evening of live traditional music and dance with caller Lausanne Allen and The String Collective, a driving, old-time string-band. All dances will be taught, no partner necessary, families are most welcome. (kids under 12 free)
Natural Dyes Workshop - with Princess Maclean
Sunday April 13th • 9am-5pm • Sterling Campus • $70.00This workshop focuses on extracting a range of colors, to get you excited about working with natural dyes. We will use a variety of mordants and dye materials which range from common household items and garden plants to more exotic sources like cochineal, the red-producing prickly pear cactus louse. You will dye wool and silk with some amazing results. Feel free to bring any yarn you want to dye. Materials used will include yarn, silk scarves, dyes and mordants.
Draft Horse Driving - with Rick Thomas
Saturday May 3rd • 8am-5pm • Sterling Campus • $125.00This full day workshop teaches you the basics of working with draft horses You will learn safe handling, basic hoofcare and harness fit, as well as ground and vehicle driving for both a single horse and a team. The workshop will include a weather-appropriate work component.
Tablet Weaving - with Jeff Bickart
Saturday May 3rd • 9am-5pm • Sterling Campus • $70.00/daySpend one or two days learning the basic techniques of tablet weaving, which has been used for at least 2,500 years to create belts, bands, and sashes of stunning complexity and beauty. Beginners can in a few hours create very pleasing pieces. Students may take this class for one day, selecting a “threaded-in” pattern, setting everything up, and beginning to weave, and may add a second day, which will introduce more complex methods, including double-faced weaving that makes possible the weaving of pictures and words. Optional second day Sunday May 4th 9:00-5:00pm. (The first day is a prerequisite for the second day.)
Historical Logging Practices - with Rick Thomas
Saturday May 10th • 8am-5pm • Simpson Hall • $125.00This day-long workshop will introduce participants to the challenges faced by loggers of the area in the late 1800’s. Hand tools—the felling axe and crosscut saw—and horses will be used to bring down trees and extract them to the landing. The day will begin in the logging shop as we sharpen tools and prepare for work. After a morning in the woods, we will eat a hardy lunch prepared over an open fire, then return to the woods with a horse to extract the day’s logs. Along the way, we will hear stories, encounter hardship, solve problems, work with 19th century logging technology and principles, and re-live a bit of local history.
